The story of Smakosz Restaurant begins in 1985, when Edward Kaminski, opened first restaurant on Cicero & Fullerton in Chicago. Twelve years later, in 1997, Edward decided to change the location of his restaurant, and here we are now… at 5619 W Lawrence Ave in Chicago. Our founder’s goal was simple. To have a restaurant serving delicious, made-from-scratch Polish food at everyday prices, as well as to create a place where guests of all ages could come together to experience the unique flavors, along with the culture of Poland. What came to life was a truly unique dining experience – authentic tastes of Poland, with family-style dining. This goal has been shared through two generations, when Edward’s daughter, Renata took over and started implementing some changes, but still keeping her father’s vision…
Our Passion
There’s nothing better than a home cooked meal… We are passionate about our fresh, made-from-scratch dishes, each one made from the heart and crafted with pride from our Chef’s and Kaminski’s family recipes. We serve both, traditional, Old World inspired recipes, which have been passed down through the generations, as well as modern, innovative cuisine, where we incorporate flavors from around the world. We always make sure that our guest will have a wide range of unique choices.
We use only the freshest, finest ingredients in all of our dishes and whenever we have access to organic options, we make sure to choose them for you. Some of those ingredients actually grown in our little garden, so in the season you can enjoy fresh vegetables and fruits, brought for you just after being harvested, to make sure you get all the flavor and all the nutrition from our mother nature.
Our Popular Dishes
The most popular Smakosz’s dish was always a Lublin Pork. For Polish community it was and still is a dish which brings back childhood memories for many Lublinians in Chicago. We still continue this tradition. As well as our signature dish, Polish Food Assortment, which was brought to Chicago’s market by Edward a long time ago, and other restaurants started serving this as well, because of it’s popularity. This dish is like a little taste of Poland on a one plate… It’s loved by everyone, just as our delicious hand-made pierogies, where the dough is so thin and delicate, that you can fully enjoy the different types of delicious fillings.
